Laser Hair Removal Suitability Test
Are you a good candidate? Discover your personalised score in 60 seconds.
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment (melanin) in your hair, so suitability depends mainly on your hair colour and thickness — and on matching the right laser to your skin tone. At Rejuvena in Bedford we use the doctor-led Lynton Motus AY, a dual-wavelength system (755 nm Alexandrite + 1064 nm Nd:YAG) that treats all skin tones, Fitzpatrick I–VI, with near-painless Moveo™ delivery. Answer 7 quick questions below for your personalised result.

Good to know
Laser hair removal suitability — common questions
Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal works best on dark, coarse hair because the laser targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. People with brown to black hair typically see the strongest results. Skin tone matters less than many people think: with a dual-wavelength system like our Lynton Motus AY, all skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–VI) can be treated safely.
Does laser hair removal work on dark skin and all skin tones?
Yes. Our Motus AY offers a 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength, which penetrates deeper and bypasses surface pigment, making it the safest, most effective option for darker (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) skin tones — where single-wavelength lasers carry a higher risk of burns or pigment changes. Lighter skin tones are usually treated with the 755 nm Alexandrite wavelength.
Does laser work on blonde, red, grey or white hair?
Laser hair removal works by targeting melanin (pigment) in the hair, which absorbs the laser energy and damages the hair follicle. For this reason, it works best on dark brown and black hair. Blonde, red, grey and white hairs contain much less melanin, meaning there may not be enough pigment for the laser to effectively target. Darker blonde or darker red-brown hair may sometimes respond, depending on the amount of pigment present. However, light blonde, red, grey and white hair generally responds poorly or not at all to laser hair removal.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Our Moveo™ in-motion technique is designed to be near-painless, with a gentle warming sensation rather than the "elastic band snap" of older lasers. Most clients find it very comfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients need a course of 8–12 sessions, spaced to match the hair-growth cycle, for long-lasting reduction. Your exact plan is confirmed at consultation, and factors like hormones (for example PCOS) can mean occasional maintenance sessions.
Laser hair removal targets the pigment in the follicle, not the skin around it — which is why the right wavelength matters so much for darker skin tones. The Motus AY carries two.
What is laser hair removal, and how does it work?
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused light energy to permanently reduce unwanted hair. The laser is absorbed by melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle, converting to heat that damages the follicle and disrupts its ability to regrow hair — without harming the surrounding skin. Because hair grows in cycles, a course of treatments is needed to target follicles during their active growth phase.
Results depend heavily on matching the laser wavelength to your skin tone and hair type. At Rejuvena we use the medical-grade Lynton Motus AY, which combines two wavelengths — Alexandrite for efficiency on lighter skin and Nd:YAG for safe treatment of darker tones — so we can treat all skin types, including those that challenge most other systems.
Areas we treat
From the face and underarms to intimate areas, legs, back and chest, we can treat almost any area of the body. Laser hair removal is suitable for both women and men, whether you want to treat a small area or several areas at the same time.
Results you can see
Most people will start to notice less hair growth even after their first session. However, because not all hairs grow at the same time, you will need a course of treatments to get the best results. Once your course is complete, occasional maintenance sessions may be needed to keep unwanted hair under control.
Can we treat darker skin tones?
One of the questions we hear most often is, “Can I have laser hair removal if I have darker skin tone?” The answer is yes. Our laser can safely treat all skin types and skin tones, including skin of colour. We adjust the settings to your individual skin tone and hair type.
Two wavelengths, one painless platform
The Lynton Motus AY is one of the UK's most advanced hair-removal lasers. Its dual wavelengths and Moveo™ delivery let us tailor every treatment to your skin tone, hair type and comfort.
Efficient on lighter skin
The 755nm Alexandrite wavelength is highly absorbed by melanin, making it fast and effective at clearing hair on lighter (Fitzpatrick I–III) skin tones.
- Best for Lighter skin, fine to coarse hair
- Strength High melanin absorption
- Comfort Moveo™ in-motion delivery
Safe for darker skin
The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength penetrates deeper and bypasses surface pigment, so it treats darker (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) skin tones safely — where single-wavelength lasers carry higher risk.
- Best for Darker skin tones, deeper follicles
- Strength Safe melanin bypass
- Comfort Gradual heating, virtually painless
The benefits of laser hair removal vs waxing or shaving
Long-lasting results
Laser hair removal significantly reduces hair growth after a course of treatments. Unlike waxing or shaving, which need constant upkeep, laser delivers lasting, smooth, hair-free skin.
No razor burns or cuts
There's no risk of razor burns, nicks or ingrown hairs. The laser targets the follicle directly, avoiding the everyday skin irritation that comes with shaving and waxing.
Cost-effective over time
The upfront cost is higher, but the lifetime spend on razors, waxing appointments and products quickly adds up. Laser hair removal is the smarter long-term investment.
Your laser hair removal journey — step by step
Consultation & patch test
We assess your skin tone, hair type and suitability, set safe parameters and trial a small test area to see how your skin reacts before any full treatment.
Preparation
The area is shaved before treatment (not waxed or plucked). Arrive with clean skin free of make-up, deodorant, perfume and creams.
Treatment
The handpiece glides over the area delivering controlled pulses; Moveo™ keeps it comfortable. Session length depends on the area — from a few minutes for the upper lip to around an hour for full body.
Aftercare
Mild redness usually settles within hours. Avoid sun exposure and use a high-SPF sunscreen; full pre- and post-care advice is provided.
Your course
Most clients need a course of 8–12 sessions, spaced to match the hair-growth cycle, for optimal long-lasting reduction.

Dual-wavelength laser
The Lynton Motus AY combines 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm Nd:YAG — treating every skin tone safely from one platform.
Safe for all skin tones
The Nd:YAG wavelength makes treatment safe and effective for darker (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) skin — where many lasers can't go.
Near-painless Moveo™
Energy is delivered in motion, gradually heating follicles — comfortable, with no need for numbing for most clients.
Doctor-led & patch-tested
A doctor-led clinic with clinical oversight, consultation and patch testing as standard before any course.
Before, during and after laser hair removal
Before
Avoid waxing, plucking and bleaching for four weeks (shaving is fine). Shave the area beforehand and arrive with clean skin free of make-up, deodorant and creams. Avoid sun and fake tan.
During
The handpiece glides over the area delivering controlled pulses. Most clients describe only mild warmth or tingling thanks to Moveo™ technology. Sessions range from a few minutes to about an hour by area.
After
Mild redness or warmth usually settles within a few hours. Treated hair sheds over the following 1–2 weeks. Use high-SPF sunscreen and avoid heat, sunbeds and harsh products while the skin recovers.
