Understanding under-eye concerns

The under-eye is the first area to show fatigue and ageing, and the right treatment depends entirely on the cause.

Under Eye Concerns — Rejuvena Clinic Bedford

What causes under-eye concerns?

The delicate skin under our eyes is one of the first areas to show signs of ageing, fatigue and stress. Concerns such as dark circles, hollowness (tear-trough deformity), eye bags from fat herniation, fine lines and crepey skin often develop together, and they can have a real cosmetic and psychological impact.

Each concern has different causes: dark circles from genetics, thin skin, poor sleep or pigmentation; hollows from loss of fat and collagen; eye bags from orbital fat protrusion and fluid retention; and lines from muscle movement and collagen breakdown. Because the right treatment depends entirely on the underlying cause, our doctor-led team in Bedford (led by a GMC-registered GP with a special interest in dermatology) assesses the area carefully before recommending a tailored plan.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about under-eye treatments in Bedford

What causes dark circles?
Genetics, thin skin and visible vessels, pigmentation, poor sleep or stress, and rubbing or allergies can all contribute to dark circles under the eyes.
Can tear-trough hollows be treated?
Yes. Carefully placed dermal fillers can restore lost volume in the tear-trough area for a smoother, refreshed under-eye when suitable.
What helps eye bags?
Eye bags from skin laxity can often be improved with non-surgical Cool Bleph; true fat-herniation bags are assessed individually to recommend the best option.
Which treatment do I need?
It depends entirely on the cause: pigment, volume loss, fat and laxity each need different approaches, which is why we assess carefully first.
Are under-eye treatments safe?
In experienced, doctor-led hands, yes. The under-eye is a delicate area, so proper assessment and a conservative approach are essential.

Your under-eye treatment, led by a doctor

At Rejuvena in Bedford, the delicate under-eye area is assessed and treated by a genuinely doctor-led team. Dr Nick, our GMC-registered Medical Director (MBBS, MRCGP, Dip Dermatology), leads on diagnosing the underlying cause — pigment, volume loss, fat herniation or laxity — so the right approach is chosen before any treatment. Working alongside him, skin therapist Lana helps deliver a careful, conservative plan for a refreshed look that is never overdone. This medical foundation is what allows us to treat such a sensitive area safely and confidently.

Is it right for you?

Under-eye treatment suits adults troubled by dark circles, tear-trough hollows, mild eye bags, fine lines or crepey skin who would like a refreshed, natural result. Because each concern has a different cause, it is ideal for anyone who wants their area properly assessed first rather than a one-size-fits-all fix. A consultation lets our team match the most appropriate option — filler, Cool Bleph, polynucleotides, PRP or anti-wrinkle injections — to your needs.

When it isn’t suitable

It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have an active skin infection, inflammation or open lesion in the area. Caution applies with bleeding disorders, immune conditions, a history of keloid scarring, or known allergy to a proposed product such as hyaluronic acid. True fat-herniation eye bags, significant skin excess or medical eye conditions may need a different or surgical approach, which we will discuss honestly at assessment.

Your safety

Safety, side effects & what to expect

In experienced, doctor-led hands the under-eye area can be treated safely, but because it is delicate, careful assessment and a conservative approach are essential. Common, temporary side effects depend on the treatment chosen and may include redness, mild swelling, tenderness or small bruises that usually settle within a few days. With injectable options there is a small risk of lumps, prolonged swelling or, rarely, vascular complications, which is why doctor-led technique and aftercare matter. We will explain the specific risks of your recommended treatment before you proceed.
