Understanding stretch marks

No treatment fully erases a stretch mark — it’s a dermal scar. But the right technology, matched to its phase, produces real improvement in texture, depth and colour.

Understanding stretch mark phases (striae distensae): early red striae rubrae with dilated capillaries and active remodelling versus mature white striae albae with atrophic, fibrotic dermal tissue.

Red vs white — and why the phase matters for treatment

Stretch marks (medically, striae distensae) form when skin is stretched beyond its elastic threshold and the collagen and elastin fibres in the dermis rupture. They progress through two phases, and the phase determines which treatment works best:

  • Striae rubrae (red/pink/purple): early marks with active inflammation and visible vessels. More responsive, because the dermis is still actively remodelling — IPL, laser and RF microneedling all work well here.
  • Striae albae (white/silver): mature marks where inflammation has resolved, leaving atrophic, hypopigmented bands. More challenging — but Morpheus 8 Burst™ and Cool Laser™ can still deliver significant textural improvement and some repigmentation.

What we treat

What stretch mark treatment addresses

At Rejuvena in Bedford, each stretch mark removal plan starts with a careful assessment to confirm the concern, suitability and realistic next steps.

The technology

Two technologies, one tailored programme

Rejuvena treats stretch marks with two clinically advanced platforms. Dr. Nick designs each programme individually — selecting the right technology for your stretch mark type, skin tone and treatment area.

RF microneedling · 3-depth

Morpheus 8 Burst™

Burst mode delivers radiofrequency energy simultaneously at three dermal depths in a single pass — superficial, mid and deep — triggering fibroblast proliferation, new collagen and elastin remodelling. Because stretch marks involve damage at multiple depths, this multi-level approach is especially well suited.

  • Best for All types; abdomen, thighs, hips
  • Sessions 1–3, spaced 4–6 weeks
  • Downtime 24–72 hours redness
  • Maintenance 1–2 sessions per year
Fractional Er:YAG · 2940nm

Dermablate Cool Laser™

A fractional Er:YAG beam creates precise micro-columns of ablation, leaving islands of untreated skin between zones for rapid healing while stimulating new tissue. Three resurfacing depths match the severity being treated, and integrated cooling cuts downtime — particularly effective for surface texture and white stretch marks.

  • Best for Texture; white (mature) marks
  • Sessions 2–4, spaced 4–6 weeks
  • Depths Superficial, medium, deep
  • Downtime 3–7 days redness/peeling

For established or extensive marks, Dr. Nick recommends an alternating combination protocol — RF microneedling to rebuild the deep dermis, fractional laser to refine the surface between sessions. This is the gold standard for stretch mark treatment at Rejuvena.

The programme

Your stretch mark programme — step by step

1

Consultation & assessment

Dr. Nick assesses your stretch mark type (red vs white), skin tone and treatment area, and designs an individual programme — single technology or combination.

2

Numbing

Numbing cream is applied 45–60 minutes before the session so treatment stays comfortable.

3

Treatment

Morpheus 8 Burst™ delivers RF at three depths, or the Cool Laser™ resurfaces fractionally — 30–90 minutes depending on technology and area. You feel pressure and warmth, not sharp pain.

4

Healing & collagen remodelling

Redness settles over 24 hours to 7 days. The deeper improvement develops as collagen matures over the following 4–12 weeks.

5

Review & maintenance

Progress is reviewed across the course, with 1–2 maintenance sessions per year to hold results.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions — stretch mark treatment in Bedford

What is Morpheus 8 Burst and how does it treat stretch marks?
Morpheus 8 Burst™ delivers RF microneedling energy simultaneously at three dermal depths in one pulse, stimulating deep collagen remodelling precisely where stretch marks form. This multi-depth approach produces superior results to standard single-depth RF microneedling.
How many sessions are needed?
Typically 3–6 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart. Red stretch marks often respond in 2–3. White/mature marks need a longer programme. Dr. Nick advises at your initial consultation in Bedford.
How much does stretch mark treatment cost in Bedford?
From £250 per session. Course packages available from £650. See our pricing page.
Can stretch marks be completely removed?
No treatment fully erases stretch marks — they are dermal scars. But Morpheus 8 Burst™ and Cool Laser™ can achieve significant improvement in texture, depth and colour. Red stretch marks respond particularly well.
Is treatment safe on darker skin tones?
Yes. Both Morpheus 8 Burst™ and the Cool Laser™ can be used safely across all Fitzpatrick skin types with appropriate parameter adjustment. Dr. Nick tailors settings to your individual skin tone.
What areas can be treated?
Abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, breasts and upper arms. Treatment is assessed and planned individually at your consultation.

Your stretch mark removal, designed by a doctor

Stretch mark removal at Rejuvena is genuinely doctor-led. Our Medical Director, Dr Nick (MBBS, MRCGP, Diploma in Dermatology, GMC-registered), personally assesses whether your marks are red (striae rubrae) or white (striae albae) and designs your individual programme using Morpheus 8 Burst™ RF microneedling, the Dermablate Cool Laser™, or an alternating combination of both. Skin therapist Lana supports your treatment and aftercare throughout the course. We never promise to erase a stretch mark — it is a dermal scar — but we deliver real, measurable improvement in texture, depth and colour.

Is it right for you?

Stretch mark treatment suits adults bothered by red, purple or white striae on the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, breasts or arms who want genuine, evidence-based improvement rather than the limited results of creams or salon devices. Red and early marks respond particularly well, often within two to three sessions, while mature white marks benefit from a longer or combination programme. Both technologies can be used safely across all Fitzpatrick skin types with parameters adjusted by Dr Nick.

When it isn’t suitable

It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or over active infection, inflammation, eczema or broken skin in the treatment area. Treatment is generally deferred for those with a recent tan or active sun exposure, certain photosensitising medications, a tendency to keloid scarring, or some active skin conditions, and is assessed individually for anyone with metal implants or pacemakers before RF microneedling. Realistic expectations are essential, as no treatment fully erases a stretch mark; Dr Nick will confirm your suitability at consultation.

Your safety

Safety, side effects & what to expect

All programmes are designed and overseen by Dr Nick, a GMC-registered doctor, using medical-grade devices rather than salon equipment, with numbing cream applied 45–60 minutes beforehand for comfort. Common, temporary side effects include redness and mild swelling for 24–72 hours after Morpheus 8 Burst™, or redness and light peeling for 3–7 days after the Cool Laser™. You should avoid sun, heat and active skincare for 5–7 days while the skin recovers. Improvement develops progressively over 4–12 weeks as collagen matures.

Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. Treatments are provided only after a consultation and medical assessment. This information is educational and is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
