Doctor-led nano fat transfer guidance in Bedford
Nano fat transfer uses specially processed fat taken from your own body and is more invasive than a standard injectable treatment. A consultation explains the evidence, limitations and recovery, alongside the non-surgical regenerative alternatives available at Rejuvena.

Nano fat transfer is a regenerative graft made from your own fat — not a quick injectable. It is a minor-surgical procedure, so honesty about what it is, and what we offer instead, comes first. Dr Nick assesses you and recommends the right path.
What is nano fat transfer?
Nano fat transfer (also called nanofat grafting) is a minimally-invasive autologous procedure in which a small amount of a patient’s own fat is liposuction-harvested — usually from the abdomen or thigh — then mechanically emulsified and filtered into a stem-cell-rich liquid known as the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), before being micro-injected into the skin. Unlike “micro” or “macro” fat grafting, nanofat contains very few intact fat cells; its value lies in its concentration of adipose-derived regenerative cells and growth factors, which biostimulate collagen and improve skin quality rather than adding volume.
Because nanofat requires a liposuction harvest and tissue processing, it is a minor-surgical, theatre-style procedure typically delivered by plastic surgeons — not a walk-in injectable. We believe in being straight with you about this: Rejuvena is a doctor-led laser and aesthetic clinic specialising in non-surgical regenerative treatments. This page explains nanofat honestly, and then sets out the proven, doctor-led alternatives we genuinely offer that target the same under-eye, crepey-skin and skin-quality goals — without surgery, anaesthetic or a donor site.
Book a consultation and Dr Nick will assess whether a regenerative approach suits you — and refer you to a surgical colleague if true fat grafting is genuinely the better option for your concern.

Nano fat vs micro fat — skin quality, not volume
The distinction matters when deciding what you actually need. Nanofat is a regenerative graft; microfat is a volumising graft. Many surgical cases combine the two.
Micro fat grafting
Larger particles containing living fat cells, used to restore volume — sunken cheeks, temples and tear-trough hollows. Roughly 50–80% of transferred fat survives and integrates; the rest is reabsorbed, so the final result settles at around three months and a top-up session is sometimes needed.
- Goal Structural volume
- Particle ~0.5–1 mm, viable adipocytes
- Result Settles ~3 months; partial reabsorption

Nano fat grafting
Mechanically emulsified fat with very few intact cells but a high concentration of stromal vascular fraction (including mesenchymal stem cells) and growth factors. Injected superficially, it biostimulates angiogenesis and collagen remodelling to improve skin texture, fine crepey lines and under-eye dark circles gradually over weeks to months — it is not a volumiser.
- Goal Skin quality & texture
- Particle Emulsified <0.1 mm, SVF-rich
- Result Progressive over weeks–months
Non-surgical regenerative alternatives at our Bedford clinic
If your goal is renewed under-eyes, smoother crepey skin or better skin quality, several doctor-led, non-surgical treatments achieve overlapping results without a liposuction harvest, anaesthetic or downtime of fat grafting. Dr Nick (GMC 6072251) and skin therapist Lana tailor these to you.
Polynucleotides
Injectable, DNA-derived bio-stimulators that are a strong choice for the under-eye area and crepey skin — improving texture and resilience over a short course. Learn more about polynucleotides.
Profhilo & bio-remodelling
An injectable hyaluronic-acid bio-remodeller that hydrates and improves skin quality and laxity with no fat harvest. See our Profhilo skin-quality treatment.
PRP / PRF
Platelet-rich plasma uses your own blood-derived growth factors to support skin renewal — autologous, like nanofat, but without surgery. Explore PRP.
Dermal fillers
Where genuine tear-trough volume is the issue, a precise, reversible hyaluronic-acid filler can restore it predictably. See dermal fillers.
How nano fat grafting is performed — step by step
For transparency, here is how the surgical procedure itself works. If this is the right route for you, Dr Nick will discuss it and can refer you to an appropriate surgical colleague.
Consultation & assessment
Dr Nick reviews your concern, medical history and skin, and assesses suitability. Where a presentation could be sinister or unclear, he assesses and refers appropriately rather than treating blindly.
Fat harvest (liposuction)
Under local anaesthetic, a small volume of fat is harvested from a donor site such as the abdomen or thigh using a fine cannula.
Processing & emulsification
The harvested fat is mechanically emulsified and filtered (the Tonnard-type protocol) to remove oil, blood and fibrous tissue, producing the stem-cell-rich nanofat liquid.
Micro-injection
The nanofat is micro-injected superficially into the target area — for example under the eyes — using small aliquots and low pressure to maximise safety.
Recovery & review
Expect bruising and swelling at both donor and treated sites for one to two weeks. Skin-quality improvement develops gradually; for volume work the result settles by about three months, when a top-up may be considered.

Who is — and isn’t — suitable
May be suitable
Adults in good general health seeking improvement in under-eye hollows or dark circles, crepey or sun-damaged skin, fine lines or acne scarring, who prefer an autologous approach and (for fat grafting) have a sufficient donor-fat reserve. For most of these goals our non-surgical regenerative treatments are an excellent, lower-downtime option.
Not suitable / caution
Fat grafting is not advised for very lean patients with insufficient donor fat, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection at the donor or treatment site, with uncontrolled bleeding or clotting disorders, or for smokers (reduced graft survival and healing). Anyone needing a true surgical lift, or with unrealistic expectations, is counselled honestly. Chronic skin conditions are managed, not cured.
Important: where an under-eye or facial change could be sinister, Dr Nick (MBBS, MRCGP, Diploma in Dermatology, GMC 6072251) assesses first and refers appropriately rather than treating blindly.
Risks & side-effects you must know
No procedure is risk-free. We explain every risk before you consent — and we never overstate outcomes.
Common, less-common & rare risks
Common & expected: bruising, swelling and tenderness at both donor and treated sites; temporary lumpiness or firmness that settles over weeks.
Less common: infection, asymmetry, contour irregularity, over- or under-correction, oil-cyst formation if a graft fails to survive (occasionally needing aspiration), skin discolouration, and partial reabsorption requiring a top-up.
Rare but serious: facial fat grafting carries a rare risk of fat embolism, which can cause vision loss or tissue damage. This risk is associated with larger-volume injection and certain sites, which is precisely why operator experience, small aliquots and low-pressure technique matter — and why this is a doctor-assessed, surgically-delivered procedure, not a casual treatment.
- Aftercare Keep sites clean; avoid pressure, heat, alcohol & smoking as advised
- Swelling Typically 1–2 weeks
- Review Final assessment / top-up at ~3 months for volume work
Because the right treatment depends entirely on your concern and whether a non-surgical regenerative option suits you, pricing is confirmed at your consultation. We never quote an invented figure. Dr Nick will set out clear, honest costs for the recommended approach before you decide.
