Understanding Lumecca® IPL

Pigment and redness sit at different skin depths. Lumecca's light is absorbed by both — breaking them down without harming the skin around them.

What is Lumecca® IPL, and how does it work?

Lumecca® is an advanced Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment by Inmode™ that rejuvenates the skin by targeting the signs of ageing and sun damage. It delivers pulses of broad-spectrum light that are absorbed by pigment (melanin) and blood vessels through a process called selective photothermolysis — heating and destroying the unwanted pigment and lesions while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.

The treated areas then heal naturally, leaving a more even skin tone, reduced redness and a brighter complexion. Lumecca Peak delivers significantly more energy than standard IPL, so it treats pigmentation, sun spots, freckles, thread veins, rosacea and acne effectively — often in just 1–3 sessions rather than the 4–6 typical of older systems.

Lumecca® IPL can help to:

  • Reduce pigmentation
  • Improve sun damage
  • Minimise fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce redness and inflammation
  • Target red pigments in veins
  • Even skin tone
The technology

Lumecca Peak vs standard IPL

Not all IPL is equal. Lumecca Peak's higher peak power and optimised output mean better results in fewer, more comfortable sessions.

Lumecca Peak®

Higher power, fewer sessions

Delivers significantly more energy in the 500–600nm range where melanin and haemoglobin absorb best — with a sapphire cooling tip for comfort.

  • Sessions Often just 1–3
  • Discomfort level 2 out of 10 with sapphire cooling tip
  • Recovery Shorter, with less redness
Standard IPL

Lower power, more sessions

Older systems use lower-intensity light and less-optimised output, typically needing more sessions and longer recovery for the same concern.

  • Sessions Usually 4–6
  • Discomfort level Often no cooling
  • Recovery More redness, longer

Is it right for you?

Lumecca® IPL suits people troubled by sun damage, age spots, freckles, uneven pigmentation, facial redness, rosacea-related flushing, visible thread veins or mild acne who want brighter, more even-toned skin. It is best suited to lighter skin tones, where pigment and vascular targets contrast well with the surrounding skin. Suitability is always confirmed at your doctor-led consultation and patch test.

When it isn’t suitable

Lumecca® is generally not advised for darker or very tanned skin, or after recent sun exposure or fake tan, because of the higher risk of burns and unwanted pigment changes. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infections, cold sores or undiagnosed lesions, or for those taking photosensitising medication such as roaccutane within the recommended interval. A history of keloid scarring, certain skin conditions or recent skin treatments may also mean it is not right for you — your consultation will make this clear.

Your safety

Safety, side effects & what to expect

Lumecca® IPL is delivered by our doctor-led team after a skin assessment and, where appropriate, a patch test to reduce risk. Most clients feel only a mild warmth or light elastic-snap sensation, eased by the built-in sapphire cooling tip. Common, temporary side effects include slight redness and sensitivity that usually settle within hours to a day, and treated pigment often looks darker before flaking away naturally over one to two weeks. Less commonly, blistering or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur; high-SPF sunscreen and sun avoidance during recovery help protect your results.

Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. Treatments are provided only after a consultation and medical assessment. This information is educational and is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
