Good lip filler is not about size. It is about proportion, definition and hydration — a lip that suits your face, not someone else’s.
Why people choose lip filler
For many people, lip filler is not about having bigger lips. It is about restoring what time has gradually changed, creating better balance, or enhancing features that have always felt out of proportion.
As we age, the lips naturally lose volume, definition and hydration. The Cupid’s bow can become less distinct, the lip border softens, and lipstick may no longer sit as neatly as it once did. Others have always had naturally thin lips or noticeable asymmetry and simply want a subtle enhancement that still looks entirely like them.
At Rejuvena, our philosophy is simple: lip filler should complement your face, not dominate it. The aim is natural-looking shape, proportion and definition — creating lips that look refreshed, balanced and beautifully suited to your facial features, rather than obviously treated.
What is lip filler, and how does it work?
Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler placed into and around the lips to restore or enhance volume, redefine the vermilion border, improve hydration and correct asymmetry. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule your body already produces and which naturally attracts water, so a well-placed HA filler both adds structure and holds moisture in the tissue — which is why treated lips look plumper and feel softer rather than simply larger.
At Rejuvena in Bedford every lip treatment starts with a face-to-face consultation and medical assessment with Dr Nick (MBBS, MRCGP, Diploma in Dermatology, Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine). He assesses your lip anatomy, proportions and the surrounding facial structure, discusses realistically what filler can and cannot achieve for you, and agrees an amount — usually 0.5ml to 1ml — before any injecting begins. Where it adds safety, ultrasound can be used to map the vascular anatomy of the lip and peri-oral area before treatment.
HA lip filler is not permanent. It is gradually broken down by your body over roughly six to twelve months, and it is reversible — if you are unhappy with a result, or in the rare event of a complication, it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. That reversibility is one of the main reasons we use HA products for lips rather than any permanent alternative.
Is lip filler right for you?
We would rather turn a treatment down than deliver a result that does not suit your face. Suitability is confirmed with our medical injector at consultation.
Lip filler may suit you if
Your lips have always been naturally thin, or have lost volume and definition with age; you have noticeable asymmetry between the upper and lower lip or between the two sides; your lip border has flattened; or you simply want a subtle, proportionate improvement in shape and hydration.
A different treatment may suit you better if
Your main concern is fine vertical lines above the lip, where a skin-resurfacing or skin-quality approach may work better; you have a gummy smile, which anti-wrinkle injections address; or the volume loss is really in the mid-face, in which case dermal filler elsewhere will give a more natural overall result.
What we always confirm first
Your full medical history, any history of cold sores (which may need antiviral cover before treatment), pregnancy or breastfeeding, allergies, blood-thinning medication, and any previous filler — including where it was placed and what was used — before we treat.

Consultation & assessment
Our medical injector reviews your medical history, assesses your lip and facial proportions, and agrees the goal and the amount of filler with you. Photographs are taken so progress can be compared honestly.
Numbing
A topical numbing cream is applied and left to work. The HA products we use also contain lidocaine, so the lip becomes progressively more comfortable as treatment proceeds.
Your treatment
Filler is placed with a fine needle or cannula in small, controlled amounts, building the result gradually and checking symmetry as we go. Where it adds safety, ultrasound is used to map the vessels first. The injecting itself usually takes 20–30 minutes.
Aftercare & review
Expect swelling for the first few days — lips swell more than any other area — and possible bruising. You will get clear written aftercare. The true result is judged at about two weeks, when any refinement can be discussed.
The lips are one of the least forgiving areas on the face — and one of the riskiest to inject. I would rather place half a millilitre well, review you at two weeks and add more, than chase a look in a single appointment.
Why choose Rejuvena for lip filler in Bedford?
Injected by a doctor
At Rejuvena, all injectable treatments including lip filler are only performed by medical professionals, as we believe these are medical cosmetic treatments and therefore should only be performed by medical members of the team.
Ultrasound-guided safety
We can map the vascular anatomy around the lip with ultrasound before treating — and use it to locate and manage previous filler.
Reversible, and we can reverse it
We only use hyaluronic acid fillers in lips, and we hold hyaluronidase on site — so a result can be adjusted or dissolved if needed.
