Understanding the HydraFacial

A HydraFacial is a medical-grade hydradermabrasion facial — it cleanses, exfoliates, painlessly extracts congested pores and infuses hydrating, antioxidant serums in a single session, with no downtime.

What is a HydraFacial?

The HydraFacial is the best-known form of hydradermabrasion — a non-invasive, non-ablative facial that combines crystal-free, microdermabrasion-style exfoliation with simultaneous vacuum-assisted pore extraction and the pneumatic infusion of water-based serums. Instead of abrasive crystals, a patented spiral tip and a swirling Vortex-Fusion action lift away dead skin and debris while serums rich in hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and peptides are pressed into freshly resurfaced skin.

It is the treatment people reach for when skin looks dull, tired, congested or dehydrated and they want a visible, same-day improvement without redness or recovery — which is why it is so often booked before a wedding or event. At Rejuvena in Bedford, your skin is assessed first by Dr Nick (MBBS, MRCGP, Diploma in Dermatology, GMC 6072251) so the serums and intensity are matched to your skin, and so that anything that needs a different treatment — or a medical opinion — is recognised before a cosmetic facial is performed. If you are mainly bothered by dull, tired skin, this is one of the most reliable ways to restore radiance.

The technology

How the HydraFacial works

Hydradermabrasion does three jobs at once — exfoliate, extract and infuse — using a spiral tip, gentle vacuum and skin-matched serums. The mechanism is genuinely skin-deep, not just surface shine.

The delivery system

A spiral tip creates a vortex against the skin: it simultaneously loosens dead cells and debris, draws congestion out of pores with a controlled vacuum, and pushes hydrating serum into the surface. Because it is water-based and crystal-free, it suits most skin types and tones with very low risk of irritation.

  • Best for Dullness, congestion, dehydration, texture
  • Session Usually 30–60 minutes
  • Downtime None — a true “lunchtime facial”
  • Comfort Painless, including extractions

Skin-matched serums

The active serums

Serums are layered to do specific work: a gentle exfoliating blend to soften and lift dead cells; a mild glycolic and salicylic acid step to refine surface texture and clear pores; and a hydrating finish of hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and peptides to plump and protect. At Rejuvena the actives are chosen for your skin at consultation rather than applied to a fixed recipe.

  • Exfoliate Soften & lift dead surface cells
  • Refine Mild glycolic + salicylic acid
  • Hydrate Hyaluronic acid + antioxidants
  • Pair Combine with Dermalux LED therapy

There is real science behind the glow: a peer-reviewed study of hydradermabrasion with an antioxidant serum found measurable increases in epidermal and upper-dermal thickness and in skin antioxidant levels, alongside reduced fine lines and pore size — so the benefit reaches a little below the surface, not just on top of it.

Your appointment

Your HydraFacial, step by step

1

Skin assessment

Dr Nick or skin therapist Lana reviews your skin and history, confirms the facial is right for you today, and selects the serums. If anything looks like it needs a different treatment — or a medical opinion — that is flagged before we begin. A skin analysis consultation can be added to map your skin in more detail.

2

Cleanse & exfoliate

The spiral tip gently resurfaces the skin, lifting away dead cells, oil and surface debris to reveal a smoother, brighter base.

3

Gentle acid peel

A mild glycolic and salicylic blend loosens deeper congestion and refines texture — strong enough to work, gentle enough to leave no downtime.

4

Painless extraction

The vacuum action draws out blackheads and congestion from the pores comfortably — no manual squeezing, no marks.

5

Hydration & antioxidant infusion

Hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and peptides are infused to plump, calm and protect the freshly resurfaced skin, leaving an immediate glow.

Pricing in Bedford
Confirmed at consultation

HydraFacial pricing is confirmed at your consultation, because the right serums, intensity and whether you would benefit from a single session or a course depend on your skin. Many people start with one session before an event, then move to a maintenance course for lasting results.

Your consultation includes a doctor-led skin assessment so you know exactly what is recommended — and why — before you commit.

Suitability

Is a HydraFacial right for you?

It may suit you if

You want hydration and a brighter, smoother complexion; your skin looks dull, tired or congested; you have blackheads or pores that look enlarged; you want a comfortable, no-downtime facial before an event; or you want gentle maintenance between deeper treatments. It is generally well tolerated across most skin types and tones.

It is not suitable if

We will defer or recommend something else if you have an active cold sore or skin infection, broken skin, sunburn or an active rash; flaring, inflamed rosacea or very reactive skin; an allergy to an active serum ingredient; or recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane), peels, laser or microneedling. In pregnancy or breastfeeding some actives are avoided, so it is reviewed at consultation.

What it will not do

A HydraFacial improves the appearance and quality of skin — it does not cure acne, rosacea or pigmentation, and it will not treat deep wrinkles, significant laxity or deep acne scarring. For those, Dr Nick can guide you to the right option, such as Profhilo for deeper hydration and bio-remodelling. If a mole or lesion looks atypical, Dr Nick assesses it and refers appropriately rather than treating over it.

What our patients say

I recently had a Diamond Glow Facial and was very pleased with the experience. The treatment left my skin feeling deeply cleansed, refreshed, and smooth. My face looked brighter after the facial, and my skin felt much cleaner and healthier. Lana was professional and made me feel comfortable throughout the treatment. I would recommend this facial to anyone looking to give their skin a thorough cleanse and refresh.

FAQ

HydraFacial FAQs — Bedford

What is a HydraFacial and how does it work?
A HydraFacial is a hydradermabrasion facial. A spiral tip and gentle vacuum exfoliate the skin, painlessly extract congested pores and infuse hydrating, antioxidant serums in one session — cleansing, resurfacing and hydrating at the same time, with no downtime.
How long does a HydraFacial take and is there any downtime?
Most sessions take 30–60 minutes and there is no downtime — it is often called a “lunchtime facial”. You can wear makeup again after around 24 hours and return to normal activities the same day.
How long do HydraFacial results last?
The fresh, hydrated glow typically lasts about 5–7 days, and sometimes a little longer. Results are temporary; texture, congestion and radiance improve best with a regular monthly course.
How often should I have a HydraFacial?
As a guide, oilier or congested skin may suit every 2–3 weeks, combination skin around every 4 weeks, and drier or maintenance skin every 4–6 weeks. Lana and Dr Nick will recommend a rhythm for your skin.
Is a HydraFacial painful, and what are the side effects?
It is comfortable, and even the extractions are painless. Side effects are mild and temporary — usually some redness or tightness that settles within a few hours to 24–48 hours. Rarely, skin can purge or react to a serum, which is why your skin is assessed first.
Is a HydraFacial suitable for sensitive, acne-prone or rosacea skin?
It is gentle and suits many sensitive and acne-prone skins, and may help mild congestion — but it does not treat or cure acne or rosacea. We avoid it during an active rosacea flare, active infection, broken skin or sunburn, and in pregnancy some actives are not used. Dr Nick assesses suitability before treatment.
How much does a HydraFacial cost in Bedford?
Pricing is confirmed at your consultation, as it depends on your skin and whether a single session or a course is recommended. Your consultation includes a doctor-led skin assessment so you know what is advised before you decide.
HydraFacial or a chemical peel — which is better for me?
A HydraFacial is the no-downtime “glow and hydrate” option for dull, congested or dehydrated skin. A chemical peel resurfaces more deeply for texture and tone but can involve some peeling. We often recommend a HydraFacial for maintenance and an event glow — see our facials and peels for resurfacing options.
Can I have a HydraFacial before a wedding or event?
Yes — it is one of the most popular pre-event treatments because of the instant glow and lack of downtime. Book it around 1–2 days before, go makeup-free for roughly 24 hours afterwards, and your skin will look its freshest on the day.

Is it right for you?

A HydraFacial suits most skin types and tones, especially skin that looks dull, tired, congested or dehydrated, and anyone wanting a comfortable, no-downtime facial for an event or for maintenance between deeper treatments.

When it isn’t suitable

It is deferred or avoided with an active cold sore or skin infection, broken skin, sunburn or rash, a flaring inflamed rosacea or very reactive skin, an allergy to an active serum ingredient, or recent isotretinoin, peels, laser or microneedling. Some actives are avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dr Nick reviews suitability at consultation.

Your safety

Safety, side effects & what to expect

A HydraFacial is gentle and well tolerated. Side effects are usually mild and temporary — some redness or tightness that settles within a few hours to 24–48 hours; rarely, transient purging or a reaction to a serum. It improves the appearance of skin but does not cure acne, rosacea or pigmentation, and will not treat deep wrinkles, laxity or deep scarring. We explain limits and risks before you consent.
