A wart is driven by HPV deep in the skin — which is why creams and freezing so often fail. Medical laser reaches the infected tissue at its root.
What is a wart, and why do home treatments often fail?
A wart (verruca vulgaris) is a benign skin growth caused by infection with certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). The virus drives rapid proliferation of keratinocytes in the upper skin layers, producing the rough, raised surface characteristic of a common wart. Warts can appear anywhere on the body but most frequently affect the hands, fingers, face and around the nails.
Over-the-counter salicylic acid products work for superficial warts when applied consistently over weeks, but many warts develop a thick keratin cap that prevents topical agents from reaching the viral core. Deeper or long-established warts — particularly mosaic types or periungual warts around the nails — rarely respond to chemist products alone. Professional laser treatment reaches the infected tissue directly, achieving faster, more reliable results.

At Rejuvena in Bedford, each wart removal plan starts with a careful assessment to confirm the concern, suitability and realistic next steps.
Two lasers, one precise protocol
Rejuvena holds two of the UK’s most advanced laser platforms for skin-lesion treatment. Dr. Nick selects the right device for each wart by type, depth, location and skin tone.
Lynton Motus AY
The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength penetrates the dermis to destroy the blood vessels feeding the wart — clearing HPV-infected tissue from within. Moveo™ delivery makes it virtually painless.
- Best for Stubborn, recurring, deep warts
- Sessions 1–3, spaced 3–4 weeks
- Comfort Moveo™ — near-painless
- Skin types Safe for Fitzpatrick I–VI
Dermablate Cool Laser™
The 2940nm Erbium:YAG wavelength has the highest water absorption, so it ablates the wart layer by layer with extreme precision and minimal heat. Built-in cooling reduces redness and downtime.
- Best for Superficial, flat & facial warts
- Sessions Often 1; deeper may need 2
- Downtime 3–7 days mild scabbing
- Comfort Topical numbing applied
The wart removal session — step by step
Clinical assessment
Dr. Nick examines the wart under magnification to confirm diagnosis and measure size, depth and extent of the lesion.
Anaesthesia
Topical numbing cream (EMLA or equivalent) is applied 30–45 minutes before treatment.
Laser treatment
The selected laser is applied to the wart. For Nd:YAG, the handpiece moves over the area; for Er:YAG, precise pulses ablate each layer. Treatment takes 10–20 minutes per wart.
Post-treatment dressing
A light dressing is applied. Written aftercare instructions are provided.
Follow-up
Dr. Nick reviews progress at the next session or via a follow-up call to assess response and plan any additional sessions.
