Controlled micro-injuries activate the skin's natural repair response, stimulating new collagen and elastin formation over time.
What is SkinPen® microneedling, and how does it work?
Microneedling — also known as collagen induction therapy — is a non-invasive treatment that harnesses the skin's natural healing response. Using the medical-grade SkinPen® device, ultra-fine needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin's surface. These micro-injuries trigger the skin's repair process, prompting the production of fresh collagen and elastin — the building blocks of healthy, youthful skin.
Because needle depth is adjustable, treatment can be tailored to the face, neck, décolletage or body and to specific concerns. SkinPen® is FDA-cleared and effective for acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven tone and texture, hyperpigmentation and stretch marks — refining and renewing the skin with minimal downtime.
SkinPen Microneedling at Rejuvena, Bedford
SkinPen microneedling triggers your skin's own collagen and elastin renewal to refine scarring, pores, texture and fine lines. At Rejuvena in Bedford, treatments are led by Dr Nick (GMC 6072251) and skin therapist Lana, who tailor needling depth and a course plan to your skin during a personal consultation.
SkinPen® or Morpheus8?
Both renew the skin — Dr Nick helps you choose based on your skin concern.

Your SkinPen® journey — step by step
Consultation
We assess your skin, discuss your concerns and customise the treatment plan and needle depth.
Preparation
Skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared. Numbing cream is generally not needed, though it can be applied on request.
Microneedling
The SkinPen® creates controlled micro-channels across the area. Most describe a slight prickling — typically 30–60 minutes.
Aftercare
Skin may look slightly red or feel sunburned for 24–48 hours. We provide gentle cleansing, moisturising and SPF advice.
Your course
A series of 3–6 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typically recommended for optimal results.
I particularly like SkinPen for patients where the main concern is skin quality rather than volume loss. The improvement develops gradually as collagen remodelling takes place, which is why I usually recommend assessing results over a course rather than after a single treatment.

Why choose Rejuvena for SkinPen® microneedling in Bedford?
Medical-grade SkinPen®
An FDA-cleared device used by trained professionals for safe, consistent results.
Doctor-led care
Clinical oversight and tailored needle depth for your skin and concern.
Customisable
Treats face, neck, décolletage and body, with combination options like stem cells / exosomes.
Minimal downtime

Not every skin concern needs the same treatment
SkinPen® is excellent for collagen induction — texture, enlarged pores and certain types of scarring — but it isn't always the best option.
Depending on your skin and what you want to improve, we may recommend SkinPen®, Morpheus8, laser resurfacing or a combination approach. Your consultation is designed to identify the right treatment rather than simply sell you a particular device.

As a battle-scarred rugby veteran, I may be considered an unlikely candidate for aesthetic skin treatment. However after many years of suffering venous leg ulceration, treated at considerable time and cost to the NHS, a trusted health professional suggested I try laser treatment to supplement my body's own healing process. Soon after starting treatment at Rejuvena Clinic Bedford, I found remarkably rapid healing of stubborn chronic ulcers and have a very positive view of success over the course of my treatment. Thanks to you, Dr. Nick!

Read this review on Google (opens in a new tab)I recently had a Diamond Glow Facial and was very pleased with the experience. The treatment left my skin feeling deeply cleansed, refreshed, and smooth. My face looked brighter after the facial, and my skin felt much cleaner and healthier. Lana was professional and made me feel comfortable throughout the treatment. I would recommend this facial to anyone looking to give their skin a thorough cleanse and refresh.

Frequently asked questions — SkinPen® microneedling in Bedford
What is SkinPen® microneedling?
How does it work?
Is SkinPen better than RF microneedling?
RF microneedling, such as Morpheus8, combines needles with radiofrequency energy and may be preferable when skin laxity, tightening or deeper tissue remodelling are additional concerns. At your consultation, we assess your skin and recommend the treatment — or combination — most appropriate for your concerns.
SkinPen vs Dermaroller — what's the difference?
This allows treatment to be precisely tailored to different areas and skin concerns. SkinPen is a regulated medical microneedling system rather than a home-use cosmetic roller.
Can SkinPen help acne scars?
However, deeper scars — particularly ice-pick, deep boxcar or tethered rolling scars — may not respond sufficiently to microneedling alone. Depending on the type and depth of scarring, we may recommend combining SkinPen with treatments such as laser resurfacing, subcision or other scar treatments.
Can SkinPen treat pigmentation?
However, not all pigmentation should be microneedled. Melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, sun damage and individual pigmented lesions require different approaches. We therefore assess the cause of pigmentation before recommending treatment.
Can SkinPen treat stretch marks?
Several treatments are usually required, and complete removal of stretch marks should not be expected.
Is SkinPen suitable for darker skin tones?
However, darker skin can be more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation following skin injury, so appropriate treatment settings, preparation and aftercare remain important.
Can I have SkinPen if I have active acne?
If acne is still active, we may recommend controlling the inflammation first and treating the residual acne scarring once the skin has settled. Active skin infection is specifically listed as a reason microneedling may not be suitable.
Is SkinPen safe around the eyes?
We do not microneedle the eyelid itself or treat indiscriminately close to the eye. The area is assessed first and treated using appropriate depths and technique.
Is it safe?
Who shouldn't have microneedling?
We therefore carry out a consultation and medical assessment before treatment to make sure SkinPen is appropriate and safe for you.
Does it hurt?
What is the downtime?
How soon can I wear makeup after SkinPen?
Your skin may remain pink or mildly sensitive for 24–48 hours, and we will provide you with personalised aftercare instructions following treatment.
How many treatments are needed?
When will I start seeing results?
Improvement usually becomes more noticeable over the following weeks and continues after treatment. For concerns such as acne scarring, pores and texture, we usually assess the overall result after completing the recommended course rather than judging the treatment after a single session.
How long do SkinPen results last?
However, SkinPen® cannot stop the normal ageing process, sun exposure or the development of new skin concerns. Some patients choose occasional maintenance treatments after completing their initial course.
Can SkinPen be combined with PRP or other treatments?
SkinPen® can be incorporated into treatment programmes alongside PRP, laser treatments, skin boosters or other collagen-stimulating procedures, depending on your skin and treatment goals. These treatments do not necessarily need to be performed on the same day.
Importantly, SkinPen is not cleared as a device for delivering PRP, injectable products, serums or other substances into the skin. We therefore assess combination treatments individually rather than routinely applying products into freshly microneedled skin.
